If it’s failing (cracked, separated, peeling, contaminated), removal and prep are typically the correct approach. Applying over old sealant is usually short-term.
Can window caulking stop drafts?
Often, yes—when drafts come from perimeter air leakage. If the draft is from window hardware, alignment, or deeper envelope gaps, caulking may be only part of the fix.
What about fog between window panes?
That’s usually a failed insulated glass seal (IGU), which is different from perimeter sealing. We can still address perimeter joints, but IGU issues may require window repair.
